We are excited to welcome Austin Houghton to the Black Gold Organization Design Staff!
Austin Houghton, born in Baton Rouge Louisiana, is currently based out of Houston, Texas where he teaches throughout the area. After spending two years as Director of Nimitz High School, he is now serving his first year as the Color Guard Director at Stratford High School in Memorial City while choreographing, designing, and teaching for other programs such as Spring Woods High School, Kingwood Park High School, Spring High School, Heights High School, and Dawson High School. Austin has also been on staff for Spirit Independent from the University of Houston. Austin is also serving his 4th season as the movement coordinator and choreographer for the Spring High School marching band.
His performance experience started at his alma mater, Spring High School, where he played saxophone in the band program for four years, receiving numerous acknowledgments and awards including invitations to the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, two years in the TMEA All State Band, and Junior Wind Division champions at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. He's also competed at numerous BOA Regionals and BOA Grand National Championships in 2011 with the marching band at Spring. He started becoming involved in color guard his first year out of high school with the University of Houston's Independent Winterguard, Spirit Independent, and marched two seasons with them in 2016 and 2017. He also marched the Santa Clara Vanguard Color Guard in the summer of 2017 and received the George Zingali Award for High Color Guard. He is very excited to be apart of the Black Gold Staff and can’t wait to see what this season has in store.
